We’ll start by working with a life model, so students gain a good understanding of the human form. We will learn about proportions, basic anatomy, rhythms and dynamics of the human figure.
On the first day, we’ll sketch in charcoal and crank clay. We’ll say ‘goodbye’ to our model after a day or two, so that we are freed to abstract our forms.
There will be plenty of opportunity to experiment with sizes and we won’t need to use armatures (though you are welcome to bring your own). You may even like to explore working at a larger scale, in sections, to make the pieces easier to transport and then fire. You’ll need to arrange this separately and we can offer advice.
The workshop is suitable for all. Experience of life drawing or observational studies of the human figure, in any material, would be an advantage. You will be tutored individually; everyone works at their own pace.
